Dogs Perish in Belmont House Fire
Contact: Captain Patrick Halleran - Public Information Officer, Belmont Police & Fire Departments (650) 595-7430
Three dogs perished in a house fire Monday morning in Belmont. A resident, who discovered the fire, was taken to the hospital with smoke inhalation after unsuccessfully attempting to rescue the dogs. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
On Monday, 1/16/17 at approximately 10:00AM, Belmont Fire and Police units responded to a report of a structure fire in the 3900 block of Christian Dr. Upon arrival, first responders found smoke and flames coming from the home. A 47 year old male resident of the home was found outside, suffering from smoke inhalation.
Belmont firefighters were assisted by units from the San Mateo and Foster City Fire Departments as well as CalFire. The fire was extinguished within 30 min. No other persons were injured.
Apparently, the resident left the home earlier in the morning to go to the store. When he returned home he saw the house was on fire and attempted to rescue the dogs, but was unable to do so because of smoke and flames. He was treated at the scene by Belmont Fire Department Paramedics and transported to an area hospital.
