Pedestrian Killed on El Camino Monday Evening
Contact: Captain Patrick Halleran - Public Information Officer, Belmont Police and Fire Departments (650) 595-7430
A pedestrian was struck and killed Monday evening, while crossing a dimly lit section of El Camino in the rain. The cause of the collision is under investigation, but the following information is available at this time.
On Monday, 2/6/17 at approximately 6:00pm, Belmont Police and Fire units responded to a report of a pedestrian that had been struck by a car in the 500 block of El Camino. Upon arrival, first responders found that the pedestrian had succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the car, a 59 year old San Jose man, was on-scene and was uninjured. The driver told investigators that he was driving his white 1996 Honda Civic with traffic, in the left southbound lane of El Camino from Davey Glen Rd. As he was going through the 500 block, a man in dark clothing suddenly crossed in front of him toward the center island. The driver attempted to avoid the collision, but was unable to stop before striking the pedestrian.
The pedestrian, a 74 year old transient, was wearing dark clothing and was crossing in a dimly lit section of the road, where there is no crosswalk. His name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Investigators are asking for anyone who witnesses this collision or has information on it, to contact Belmont Police at (650) 595-7400 or email@example.com.
