A fire this morning in Belmont displaced a couple from their apartment in the 1600 block of 5th Ave. There were no injuries and the fire was confined to one unit, with a second apartment sustaining smoke damage.
On Monday, 6/19/17 at approximately 8:35 AM, Belmont Fire and Police units responded to a report of a fire in the 1600 block of 5th Avenue. Upon arrival, first responders found heavy smoke coming from an apartment on the second story of an apartment complex.
Belmont firefighters, with assistance from units from the San Mateo, Foster City & San Carlos Fire Departments, were able to contain the fire to the apartment where it began and it was extinguished within 20 minutes. One firefighter was checked for possible heat-related issues by paramedics, but was not transported.
The apartment were the fire occurred was determined to be uninhabitable and an adjacent apartment sustained smoke damage. The residents of both apartments were at work at the time of the fire and both couples are being assisted by the Red Cross. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
