Police Seeking School Thief
Contact: Captain Patrick Halleran, Public Information Officer - Belmont Police & Fire Departments (650) 595-7430
Belmont Police are asking for the public's help in identifying a woman who stole credit cards from a teacher's purse at an elementary school and then used them at stores in Santa Clara.
On Thursday, 8/31/2017 approximately 12:15pm, unidentified African American woman was contacted by staff in the hallway of Central Elementary School in the 500 block of Middle Rd. When asked if she needed help, the woman told staff she was there to pick up a child from kindergarten, which was letting out at the time. Later that afternoon, a teacher received a fraud alert from her credit card company and discovered credit cards had been taken from her purse, which had been in a file cabinet in her classroom.
Investigators have determined that the suspect used the cards at several stores at the Valley Fair Mall in Santa Clara and was captured by security cameras leaving one of the stores. The witnessed described the suspect as an African American female in her 30's, approximately 5' 8" tall with long braided hair. At the school she was wearing a blue T-shirt and shorts with a colorful headband. Security video from the store in Santa Clara later show her wearing a light colored baseball cap and jeans.
Anyone with information on this crime or suspect is asked to contact Belmont Police at 650-595-7400 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
